The Manure Challenge

When manure is not managed properly, it can be a costly. liability for farmers an increase reputation and regulatory risks for farming communities. Today, a number of innovative manure management approaches are popping up around the US and other countries. However, adoption of these technologies is low. In order for these technologies to scale, a larger portion of dairy producers need to be incentivized to engage.

The Yield Lab Institute joined forces with Cargill, The Maschhoffs, WeWork Food Labs, Newtrient, Dairy Farmers of America, and our environmental advisory partner, World Wildlife Fund, to organize a startup competition for solutions providers that market manure-based products (including services). Through this competition, we seek to advance the mansure-based product market by selecting a sgroup of soution providera and guiding them through a commercialization curriculum coupled with mentorship and introduction to sources of capital.

The final event for the Manure Innovation Challenge was held virtually on June 2nd, 2020 at 8am PST/11 am EST. Eight international startups, each with a solution to capture value from masure-based by-products, pitched their innovations to a live, worldwide digital audience of agtech stakeholders.
